Risk Management: Thinking With the End in Mind, Simplifying Local Risk Management Implementation

The roll out of Risk Management Plans (RMPs) and additional Risk Minimization Measures (aRMMs) requires a balancing of Global Safety Office strategic needs with the streamlining of implementation for Local Offices. Many companies have turned to a centralized process coupled with automation software to ensure an optimized roll-out of these initiatives, ensuring high-quality, actionable data for the global level and a standardized, streamlined process at the local level. 

Global Risk Management Teams are tasked with overseeing a matrix of implementations at the global, regional, and local levels, with many possible iterations of RMPs and aRMMs. Many companies follow the practice of providing “Core” or “Global” materials (e.g., Core Risk Management Plan, Core Implementation Plan) to Local Safety Offices for the localization of those documents. However, the logistics of executing and overseeing local risk minimization efforts creates an enormous burden on Local Safety Offices if the process does not take into account the demands and requirements of those stakeholders. Hence the need for starting with the end in mind. An optimized “Global-to-Local” Process, combined with a purpose-built system to manage and automate implementation activities, helps to reduce the burden at the Local Level while providing comprehensive, actionable metrics for the global teams.
